Born in South Korea, Kyla Chung moved to Canada (New Brunswick) in 2007. She obtained a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from OCAD University in 2017. At the 102nd Annual Graduation Exhibition of OCAD in the spring of 2017, she was awarded the Fredrick Hagan “Passion in Paint” award. This student award was established at OCAD University to commemorate Frederick Hagan (1918 – 2003) who was an alumnus, a professor at the Ontario College of Art and a famous Canadian artist.
After graduating, Kyla moved back to Saint John, New Brunswick. She is currently represented by Trinity Galleries in Saint John as a visual artist, where she works as the Artist-in-Residence.
As a local Saint John artist, Kyla is participating in local art projects, such as producing artwork on old windows from the City Market, which will be auctioned off in support of P.R.O. Kids. As a personal project, with support from the Saint John Arts Centre, Kyla is also working on a Saint John cityscape series, which will lay great emphasis on the beauty of heritage architecture in Saint John by combining destroyed heritage buildings with contemporary city scenes in Saint John.
